Escape Everything! by Robert Wringham was first published in 2016 by Unbound/Penguin, the culmination of seven years of research conducted by New Escapologist magazine.
It was a LANDMARK book about how to escape the daily grind of work, consumerism, loneliness and despair. It was also very funny and written by an absolute wizard.
2021 saw the paperback release of a slightly updated version of book. It had a crappier cover and the confusing new title of I'm Out.
When Unbound went bust in 2025, the book went prematurely out of print.
For the book's tenth anniversary, it's time to get it back into print and back into bookshops.
The publishing rights have reverted to the author. He has an arrangement with the indie queens at P&H Books to publish a paperback anniversary edition of Escape Everything! this year. He also has a separate arrangement with New Escapologist's distributor to pump the book into to a network of independent bookshops across the UK, Europe and the USA, plus to Barnes & Noble in the USA and Chapters/Indigo in Canada. Waterstones in the UK might follow but that's a bit complicated. Expect to see more copies in public libraries too.
All that remains is to gauge interest in the book and to finance the reprint. That's where you come in. If you'd like to get your hands on the book for the first time or as a re-read or to replace your ugly copy of I'm Out, now's the time to get it while also helping to finance the process of getting the book back into the world.
C'mon. Let's escape mediocrity together and get this book of magic tricks into people's hands again. Thank you for your help.
About the Book:

We are all trapped by modern life. Trapped! Trapped by work, consumerism, stress, debt, isolationism and general unhappiness.
We will each spend an average of 87,000 hours at work before we die. We will spend another 5,000 hours getting to and from work and countless more preparing for work. Worrying about work. Recovering from work.
The majority of us hate our jobs. But without work, we can’t buy all the things we’ve been told we should want and need, so around we go…
Through the pages of New Escapologist magazine, Robert Wringham has studiously examined the traps of modern life, questioning where our commitment to them stems from and why we feel unable to break free.
Taking inspiration from the great Escapologist Harry Houdini – who escaped from jail cells, straitjackets, and even the innards of a dead whale – Wringham puts forward the principle of Escapology as a way to cut loose our shackles.
Become a modern-day Escapologist and freedom and happiness might be possible after all.
Ahead of its time […] I felt the way some people must have felt the first time they watched Office Space. Except this stuff is actually doable. — McKinley Valentine, The Whippet
