talking to witnesses is as close as I'll get to being there and if they can't agree on the basic facts, then what's the point? Yet for me, that is the point -- its about these people and what's still happening to them. As far as they're concerned, they're the reliable narrators of this story, clinging on to an unrecorded story ... Their recollections are personal and sacrosanct, preserved with a subject that stubbornly resists and absolute truth or objective verification.
